The talented designers and consultants each bring a diverse background with them to the firm. On many projects, Greenbusch personnel combine their individual expertise and experience to develop uniquely innovative designs and solutions.
Julie A. Wiebusch, INCE - President and Lead Acoustician
Julie Wiebusch is the Lead Acoustician and a founding principal of The Greenbusch Group. Julie graduated from Washington State University with a BA in Interior Design, and recently received a post-baccalaureate certificate in Noise Control Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. She has specialized in the field of acoustics since 1974 and is a respected leader of acoustics in the Pacific Northwest. Her career in acoustics has encompassed a wide variety of projects during the past 34 years. Julies extensive experience in design, as well as her ease with translating complex ideas into tangible designs, have been instrumental in the successful completion of numerous projects. Julie is an invited lecturer on Architectural Acoustics at the University of Washington, Washington State University and the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE). She is sensitive to project budgets and schedules and is committed to completing the project within budget and on time.
John Greenlaw, PE, LEEDTM AP - Vice-President and Lead Mechanical Engineer
John is a founding partner of The Greenbusch Group, Inc. His 29 years experience in mechanical engineering encompasses 23 years of department management and a wide variety of projects including both mechanical system design and commissioning. John's mechanical engineering work on LEED Certified Fisher Pavilion received national recognition, winning the AIA National COTE Top 10 Green Building Award in 2003. He holds both a BS (1979) and a MS (1984) degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Washington. As a principal and project manager, Johns high level of involvement in the firms projects results in distinctive, high quality designs. Johns professional affiliations include: U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Acoustical Society of America (ASA). John was asked to evaluate presentation proposals for the 2005 Greenbuild Conference and is also an invited instructor for an ASHRAE Advanced Topics Seminar and teaches a section on Mechanical System Acoustical Design.
Mark A. Rogers - Associate and Director of Audio/Video Department
Mark A. Rogers is the Director of our Audio/Video Department and an Associate at Greenbusch. Mark graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Mark has more than 30 years of experience in the design, installation, and operation of Audio/Visual systems. His 20+ years of consulting and engineering experience includes the design and management of projects including sound reinforcement systems, audio/video presentation and control systems, computer and data systems, and building acoustics for a wide variety of facilities. Mark's consulting experience is enhanced by his background in the electronics contracting field. Mark lectures and writes, and has been an invited speaker at several local and national conventions and trade shows, including the Audio Engineering Society, the Society of Broadcast Engineers, and TeleCon. He was also invited to contribute AV-related content to upcoming editions of the IEEE Gray Book and Architectural Graphic Standards.
Barry Dahlbeck, CEM, LEEDTM AP - Associate and Director of Commissioning Services

In 1985, Barry received an AS degree from Sacramento City College in Drafting Technology, and began working in the design/build department of a large mechanical contracting firm. Barry designed HVAC and plumbing systems that eventually led to managing construction projects. Barry managed his first multi-million dollar project in 1992. He has continued designing HVAC systems and managing HVAC construction projects from 1985 to 2000, when he joined The Greenbusch Group and received his formal commissioning training.
His success as a commissioning provider is the product of his thorough understanding the design, commissioning and construction processes. Barry has years of hands-on experience, in both the field as a construction manager and in the office as a design professional, participating in all facets of commissioning activities. His experience in construction management includes field testing, troubleshooting, project leadership, and project budget and schedule control. His design consulting experience includes design review, establishing performance criteria, specification writing, working with other consultants, design and reporting. He has successfully commissioned a wide range of HVAC systems for buildings such as offices, museums, performing arts theaters, libraries, educational and other public buildings.
Barrys professional affiliations include: U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Building Commissioning Association (BCA), Association for Efficient Environmental Energy Systems (AEEES), and the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).
D. Patrick Smiley, P.E. - Senior Mechanical Engineer, Elevators / Medical Facilities
In an engineering career of over 40 years, Pat has practiced as a mechanical engineer in a wide variety of areas, including all aspects of HVAC systems. For nearly 25 years, he has focussed on engineered mechanical systems with a particular emphasis on vertical hoistways. His experience includes working with both new building construction and renovation projects. Pat's involvement includes design meetings, site inspections, code compliance analysis, authoring specifications, field operational testing and reporting. As project engineer and project manager, he provides clients with elevator system design and performs testing for existing systems. Pat's design experience also includes HVAC, plumbing and specialty mechanical systems for healthcare facilities.
A native of Iowa, he received his degree in Aerospace Engineering from Iowa State University (1962). Pat is registered in Mechanical Engineering in Washington and Arizona. He is a member of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering and its Washington State affiliate, and of the NFPA, ASHRAE, and ASPE.
Elizabeth Bogomolov - Senior Acoustician
Elizabeth Bogomolov has over 30 years of experience in acoustical design. She has consulted in the design of listening spaces, recording studios and commercial buildings, and is experienced in room shaping, reverberation control, sound isolation and calculation of acoustical parameters. She has participated in all stages of project development in building acoustics, mechanical noise and vibration control, industrial noise control and environmental noise and vibration studies.
Derek Orkney, LEEDTM AP - Mechanical Designer I
Derek Orkney is a Mechanical Designer with The Greenbusch Group. Derek received his BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1996 from the University of Washington.
During his eight years with Greenbusch, Derek has become an essential part of the Greenbusch mechanical design team. He has managed a variety of tenant improvement projects and new construction at Olympic, Tacoma and Shoreline Community Colleges, Harborview Medical Center; Libraries, and Residences, among others. Derek also provides design support for our LEED Certified projects, including the LEED Certified Fisher Pavilion which received a AIA National COTE Top 10 Green Building Award in 2003.
Sara E. McPhail - Marketing Coordinator / Office Administration
Sara McPhail is the Marketing Coordinator and Office Administrator at The Greenbusch Group. Sara studied music performance at Iowa State University. She wears many hats during any given day, from Receptionist to webmaster.
When you call the office, it is probably Sara who will answer. Her nine years with the firm have given her the opportunity to become intimately familiar with the firm's experiences and strengths.
Sara would welcome your call regarding information for proposals.
She also performs with several local music groups including LUCO. When we have classical music playing for our 'on-hold' music, that's her on flute.
